Schecky’s NYC Nightlife—2010

An upscale gastropub in the Financial District is not exactly the sort of place you’d expect to find an “open door policy,” but we’ll be damned if this new place ain’t perfectly named. First of all, the bouncer actually smiles while he happily ushers you to an open barstool. What the what? Is Open Door and intergalactic portal that leads to a bizarre planet with humanoid-like avatars who are...friendly? After all, there’s also a long, elegant bar with a series of mini-chandeliers hanging overhead, not to mention an older, sophisticated crowd, enjoying the Sinatra piping softly through the speakers. Yet somehow we’re still in New York. This new incarnation has all the ingredients of your standard pub, classed up for the moneyed locals. Try the truffled cheese fries ($8), duck sliders ($12), or tuna nachos made with wontons ($12). The patrons seem to follow the lead of he friendly staff and might even share their appetizer with you. Here’s hoping this Door is always open.
